City of Thunder Bay announces tax levy increases

Real Estate transactions make up a large amount of the files we work on at Dubinsky Law. Tax Levy increases are important for anyone who owns a home or is considering buying a home. If you do not already own a home, you may not know that you will be required to pay your municipality or township property taxes. These taxes are usually based on the value of your property and most often have two portions. The first is a municipal portion, which is used to cover the costs associated with running the municipality. The second is an education portion which assists the provincial government in offsetting education costs.

Here are the estimated tax levy increases for the city of Thunder Bay in 2017:

  • residential: 4.24%
  • new multi-residential: 3.77%
  • multi-residential: 0.99%
  • commercial: 0.95%
  • industrial: 4.24%
  • large industrial: 4.25%

Dubinsky Law made buying my first house such a breeze! The staff assisted me from the beginning with helping me draft an offer, and Mr. Dubinsky walked me through every step of the closing when I came in to meet with him.

When my son was charged with careless driving, Mr. Dubinsky was able to negotiate a lesser charge for him so that he didn’t get any demerit points on his drivers license. I thought he was very professional throughout the whole process and we were very pleased with the outcome.
